I found it virtually impossible to break into the arts, so in 2020 I started a magazine called The Debutantewith my friend. Not to get all sentimental, but what began as a passion project pretty much changed my life.

The Debutante amplified the lives and legacies of women surrealists in contemporary culture. We launched issue 01 at the National Galleries of Scotland, Edinburgh, amongst a world-class surrealist collection. Interdisciplinary in scope, each issue involved handpicking artists and writers to respond to a theme.

Currently, I’m the Art Editor of The Skinny, Scotland’s leading arts and culture magazine. I’m most interested in platforming personal and political stories about the visual arts; the more timely or provocative, the better. Send me your pitches on rachel@theskinny.co.uk

As the Commissioning Editor – Scotland for Art UK, I lead on editorial for a Creative Scotland-funded project, working with researchers and art historians to develop stories on the climate crisis, Gaelic culture and rural communities.
